Process: Teach song by imitation using “four finger” phrase approach.
Teach drone on pat while speaking “Dance, can’t you dance?”
Teach hand drum part on clap speaking “Chicken pie, chicken pie, I like chicken pie.”
Teach SG part on snap while class sings. Use the words “I can dance” for the rhythm.
Teach the upward moving pentatonic scale. Encourage alternating the mallets.
After students are secure on all chants and body percussion, practice putting two or more chants together.
Transfer to instruments.
